Christine + Hillary

What can I say about these two crazy kids?! They were a blast to work with from start to finish. Christine came into the atelier looking for a custom wedding gown. She was drawn to cowl necklines, low backs, and minimal design. She wanted something sleek and elegant.

We began designing a modern gown that would rest only on style lines, fit, and movement. Without any lace, beading, or embellishment, this gown was all about couture techniques. Every seam would need to rest perfectly in place. Every style line had to flatter and draw the eye. Most importantly, it had to be authentically Christine.

We started with a sketch and then moved to a muslin mock up. Christine wanted a gown that felt effortless. She didn’t want to mess with bustles or a wardrobe change. It had to feel comfortable for her boulder top wedding and reception in Taylors Falls, Minnesota. So comfortable, that both she and Hillary could do some climbing after the ceremony. The two gals are crazy for climbing. In fact, Hillary teaches climbing at the Minneapolis Bouldering Project.

Fittings with Christine and Hillary were fabulous. The couple came in every month and I would fit Hillary in her jaw dropping wedding jumpsuit that she found online. Then Christine would step up to the pedestal for her custom wedding dress fitting. It was playful and relaxing. The couple was laid back and so excited to be marrying each other. I loved getting to know Hillary and Christine and their unique journeys that brought them together. From one of their first dates rock climbing to buying their first home, these gals fell hard for each other through mutual respect, appreciation, and a shared quest for adventure.

With every fitting we got a little closer to Christine’s custom gown. She chose a silk crepe fabric in a soft ivory that would compliment Hillary’s bridal jumpsuit. Crepe has a way of just bouncing with every step. Christine’s minimal wedding gown came to a tie just behind her neck. The tie was made of a crepe de chine that moves with the lightest breeze. The fit and flare silhouette flattered her figure and had a built in bustier.

These bold and beautiful women went to wed on a perfectly overcast and partially damp day in June.
